GOODBYE

I could never truly explain
The difference you've made in me
The laughter you inspired, the confidence you created
The person you taught me to see.

In a world full of darkness
You provided the sun
At a time I thought my life over
You convinced me it had just begun.

You opened doors
I imagined forever barred
You awakened feelings long buried
And taught me how to lower my guard.

Believe me when I say
None of this was easy to do
But somehow it was accomplished
Simply by being you.

In the midst of it all
Part of you became part of me
And in our journey to discover each other
We stepped out of reality.

And now a lesson haunts me
For it's one I do not know
It's the hardest test of all
That of letting go.

Woven through the happiness
Was an eternal inner fight
We so desperately wanted each other
But we had to do what was right.

And it was this confusing struggle
We fought within our heart
That brought us close together
And eventually tore us apart.

Certain things in life
Just aren't meant to be
And so we stepped out of our dream world
And back into reality.

But it's this kind of journey
Into another's soul
That makes us who we are
Though it takes its toll.

As we go our separate ways
My wish is that you find
A taste of the kind of happiness
Your life brought to mine.

You will always be with me
Though we travel different trails
You will always be my smile
Remember - true love never fails.

Now I must be strong
And so I will not cry
Though my heart has shattered
At this - the final goodbye.
